Elissa’s Countryside Wedding In Modeca

How did your partner propose?

Giles proposed around Lake Windermere. We walked to the castle there, found a bench and stopped for a picnic. We happened to be eating a packet of hula hoops at the time, when he took my hand and put one on my left ring finger, and asked ‘will you marry me?’. I thought he was joking so laughed and ate it! He then got down on one knee and said ‘well you can’t eat this one… will you marry me?’. And of course, I said yes!!

What’s the best piece of advice you received in the run up to your wedding?

Enjoy every moment and try not to stress over tiny details. Your guests won’t notice if something isn’t completely perfect. It’s your day so have what YOU want, you can’t cater to everyone’s tastes.

How did you go about finding your wedding dress?

I’d heard amazing things about Fross, so of course that was my first stop! I didn’t need to look any further because I found my dress there and then. I had a rough idea of what I thought I wanted… but I ended up with something completely different!

How many dresses did you try on before you found ‘the one’?

I believe it was 5, and ‘the one’ was the 5th one.

Do you know the name of your dress designer?

What made you fall in love with the dress that you chose?

The intricate detailing on the front and especially the back. Also the layer of glitter tulle was just stunning!

Did you wear a veil and/or any other bridal accessories?

I had a veil and a rose gold, flower hair piece – both from Fross!

Tell us a little about your wedding day – the vibe, what inspired you, etc.

Our wedding was held at Hendall Manor Barns in Heron’s Ghyll. Being such a beautiful countryside setting, I wanted the theme to tie in nicely. We went with dusty rose with hints of greenery, quite a rustic feel with a few gold modern elements. We had the most stunning artificial full size blossom trees which we stood under when we said our vows, ate under and then became a focal point for our evening reception.

What was your favourite moment from the day itself?

There were so many moments, but I have to say my favourite had to be when I saw Giles crying like a baby at the end of the aisle. I jokingly said to him before that if he didn’t cry then we would start the ceremony again until he cried… let’s say he didn’t disappoint!

Is there any advice you would be happy to share with other brides?

Just take it all in… make sure you have a moment with your new husband every now and then to check in with eachother, watch your guests enjoy themselves and just say ‘wow we did it!’. The day goes by in a flash, so really try and just sit back and enjoy every moment!

Are you taking a honeymoon and if so when (in relation to your wedding, ie, immediately after, or sometime later) and what are your plans?

We are off on honeymoon in June to Morocco! It will be our first holiday with our baby boy Harrison, so we are so excited!

Would you mind sharing details of any other suppliers you used?
