Jane’s Custom Gown
May 08, 2020
We loved catching up with Jane to hear all about her wedding day wearing a customised bridal gown by our very own seamstress, Helen!
How did your partner propose?
Sitting in the caravan at the top of the hill above the steam engine line at The Great Dorset Steam Fair.
What’s the best piece of advice you received in the run up to your wedding?
Make sure what you do is for you, not what you think others want to see.
How did you go about finding your wedding dress?
I came straight to Fross Wedding Collections. I was unconvinced I would find a wedding dress, or even if I wanted a dress, before I came to Fross!
How many dresses did you try on before you found ‘the one’?
I only came to Fross and tried on a couple of bridal gowns. I finally chose a customised bridal gown, as I liked parts of several other dresses. I wasn’t worried about which designer made the dress and in reality most of it was remade by Helen the seamstress!
What made you fall in love with the dress that you chose?
It just felt right. I had no preconceived ideas before coming into the shop. In fact, I hadn’t worn a dress since I was a child – or a skirt for that matter. I’d told everyone I was coming in jeans and a T-shirt and they had all believed me as the idea of me in a dress was so far fetched. I felt comfortable in the dress I chose and didn’t feel like I was trying to be anything but me.
Did you wear a veil and/or any other bridal accessories?
I had a veil and a tiara head piece from Fross Wedding Collections.
Tell us a little about your wedding day
Relaxed and fun with friends. We had a church service which was very traditional and then many of our guests used a friends vintage coach to go to the field where we had a marquee, hog roast, camping music and fire in the evening. Many of our friends camped with us for the night. We finished the evening roasting marshmallows around a fire.
What was your favourite moment from the day itself?
The whole day was magical. My top spots would be the look on Alan’s face when he saw me in the dress (the first time in any dress), our dog Jazz being part of the ceremony and fetching the rings down the aisle, the speech my mum did at the reception and the end of the evening sitting around a fire with friends and family.
Is there any advice you would be happy to share with other brides?
WHERE DID YOU GO ON YOUR HONEYMOON?
We decided not to take a honeymoon as we spent the weekend at the farm where we had the reception with our friends. We also decided to do something as an anniversary when we could enjoy it rather than straight after all the busyness of the wedding. We did most of the arrangements ourselves with the help of friends.
WHO WERE YOUR SUPPLIERS FOR YOUR BIG DAY?
Photographer – we had two friends take photos Venue – Framfield Farm Florist – I had a crochet bouquet made by a friend Cake – Thistle and Pheasant-Berry (West Hoathly based) Transport – our own classic Land Rover and a friends vintage coach Entertainment – a friend’s band Rings – Orla James in Worthing – we made our own with them which was a fantastic experience Catering – The Seasoned Sausage provided the Hog Roast Hair Stylist – LW Hair Designs on the day and Sophie Jayne at Definitions Hair in Hailsham for the amazing colour
