Katherine’s Perfect Wedding Day

How did your partner propose?

On Christmas day 2016, right in front of the Christmas tree

What’s the best piece of advice you received in the run up to your wedding?

Not to sweat the small stuff, and to ensure that we took a moment together to take in the day alone.

How did you go about finding your wedding dress?

I firstly had an idea of the style I really liked; I had seen one which I liked but it wasn’t ticking all the boxes. I had a fairly bad experience locally at a bridal shop, found Fross online and the rest was easy!

How many dresses did you try on before you found ‘the one’?

I would say I probably tried on around 10 dresses all in all. I tried to go out of my comfort zone and try on styles I wouldn’t usually go for. I think in hindsight it was a process of eliminating the style that just wasn’t for me.

Do you know the name of your dress designer?

Tiffany’s

What made you fall in love with the dress that you chose?

Predominately it was the fabric, real luxurious heavy satin, with the most beautiful train – I could see my vision of the add ons I wanted as soon as I tried it on.

Did you wear a veil and/or any other bridal accessories?

Yes I had a very long veil with a satin trim, satin shoes and just really delicate jewellery.

Tell us a little about your wedding day – the vibe, what inspired you, etc.

The inspiration was very Italian – simple, timeless, classic, and elegant.

Our colour theme was very much men in black dinner suits, bridesmaids in champagne, flowers to match and lots of foliage.

For our table decorations we had gold candelabra – hurricane vases, gold cutlery, vintage gold napkin rings and gold beaded chargers, with our favours being little bottles of limoncello.

Our seating plan was scripted pieces of paper with names waxed sealed to a decorative gold mirror.

Our main aim was to keep our guests happy, tipsy, full of food ad entertained – we had a marvellous live band, a real Stevie wonder, funky soul vibe – and fireworks at 10pm.

The day throughout was so very emotional, I lost both of my parents no so long ago, and the feeling of there absence was very apparent. My brothers played such an instrumental part of the day, stepping into my dad’s shoes, and the speeches were very emotive.

What was your favourite moment from the day itself?

I think my most favourite part was the exchanging of vows; it was a real poignant moment where life felt like it had changed.

The second part was the morning – getting ready wit hall of my bridesmaids, even though we had so many, the morning was chilled, filled with laughter and just an enjoyable experience.

Is there any advice you would be happy to share with other brides?

I spent lots of time organising the day and it really did take over life at one point, I am fairly laid back, but the pressure was quite immense. My husband was fantastic, came to appointments, chose what he liked etc but I think in hindsight we would have arranged a wedding planner just to orchestrate the whole day!

Really really try to take time out to walkaway from everybody, just you and your husband to sit back and take in the whole experience, never a word truer than how quickly your wedding day goes by!

Also, find a bridal shop which fits you and your personality, this makes the dress shopping experience so much more pleasurable. With Fross, they have Helen who carries out the alterations and she is incredible too!

Are you taking a honeymoon and if so when (in relation to your wedding, ie, immediately after, or sometime later) and what are your plans?

We are going to the Caribbean at the end of October – we both felt completed exhausted straight after the big day, we headed of for a little mini moon to the new forest with our daughter.

Would you mind sharing details of any other suppliers you used? Ideally by their Instagram handle but if not, just a business name will do!
