Sharon’s Perfect Wedding Day
How did your partner propose?
We got together on Valentine’s day 1996, we were young and actually decided over the phone to get married! We were first married in 1997. Wasn’t a grand affair. That’s why we wanted to do it all again properly in Santorini. We fell in love with Santorini when we went there for our 20th anniversary, we go back every year now. We were meant to renew our vows last year, but we had to cancel due to covid like so many others.
What’s the best piece of advice you received in the run up to your wedding?
Remember why you’re renewing your vows, focus on that. It will get you through the stress.
How did you go about finding your wedding dress?
I looked at Pinterest, Hitched and many more online places to try and decide on a style. I booked an appointment at Fross for me and 2 of my Bridesmaids.
How many dresses did you try on before you found ‘the one’?
I must have tried on 10 dresses, all different styles. I originally wanted a lace dress, soon found out they are heavy! Not what you want in a Greek climate.
Do you know the name of your dress designer?
Justin Alexander.
What made you fall in love with the dress that you chose?
Soon as I put it on, I felt special, it was perfect for a location wedding. The top was fully embroidered with just the right amount of bling. Bottom was satin with a train.
Helen made the dress even more perfect.
Did you wear a veil and/or any other bridal accessories?
I wore a pearl and diamanté hairpiece, bought from Etsy.
Tell us a little about your wedding day – the vibe, what inspired you, etc.
Just pure traditional romance, where it took your breath away. We wanted the scenery to stand out so kept everything else simple. It was very relaxed. We just wanted everyone to have a great time. My husband is Scottish, so he had a kilt made. It was perfect. My inspiration was antique lace, crochet doilies (I know), paper doilies, fairy lights and candles. We made our decorations and took them with us. Wanted it to look perfect.
What was your favourite moment from the day itself?
Walking down the stairs to the chapel and seeing my husband cry when he saw me.
Is there any advice you would be happy to share with other brides?
Make the day about you, what you both love about life. Don’t be forced to have a long guest list full of people you hardly know. We had only our closest family and dearest friends. They were all there because they wanted to be.
Are you taking a honeymoon and if so when (in relation to your wedding, ie, immediately after, or sometime later) and what are your plans?
We had our honeymoon the 2nd week of our trip. The first week we spent with our wedding guests, then we moved to a different part of the island for our honeymoon.
Would you mind sharing details of any other suppliers you used? Ideally by their Instagram handle but if not, just a business name will do!
