Sophie’s Autumn-in

Jan 03, 2020

Sophie shares all the details of her autumn-inspired Sussex wedding – complete with a guest appearance from her horse, Bobby! We also find out why she fell in love with her Modeca bridal gown and her advice for other brides-to-be.

How did your partner propose?

The Saturday had already been a massive high as I had won Firle Park Hunter Trials with my horse Bobby (the other boy on my life!). On Sunday, Jamie suggested that we went for a stroll up Mount Harry, one of our favourite local South Downs walks. When we got to the top to admire the view, he got down on one knee! My answer was “yes… yes… yes!” We then sat with a mini bottle of prosecco in our wellies to celebrate.

What’s the best piece of advice you received in the run up to your wedding?

Stop worrying about things that might or might not go to plan, just be present and enjoy every moment.

How did you go about finding your wedding dress?

I have lived in the Uckfield area for most of my life so Fross was the natural choice. I often walk past the window displays. When I saw the January sample sale advertised, I didn’t hesitate to make an appointment.

How many dresses did you try on before you found ‘the one’?

‘The one’ was in fact the first dress that I picked out. I did try several others on as suggested by my stylist, sisters and mum. I narrowed it down to two lovely dresses but my gut feeling was right and I knew I’d made the right choice when a few other customers and then Fross herself said how much it suited me.

What made you fall in love with the dress that you chose?

The dress I chose was ‘Ezra’ by the designer Modeca. I knew that I wanted something with lace and sleeves, that complimented my figure. It just felt right and the detail is absolutely stunning.

Did you wear a veil and/or any other bridal accessories?

I wore an elbow length veil and a hair vine by Linzi Jay. I didn’t want too much extra in the way of jewellery as I wanted the dress to speak for itself.

Tell us about your wedding day.

What was your favourite moment from the day itself?

The ceremony itself was very special. But also pulling into the entrance of Horsted Place in our vintage VW camper van to see Bobby and all our friends and family ready to greet us. To be honest, the whole day was the best day of my life, it could not have gone any better.

Is there any advice you would be happy to share with other brides?

Smile, don’t stress on the day itself! Everything will happen, just concentrate on yourself and your other half. Most of all, enjoy every single moment.

Where did you go on your honeymoon?

We took a mini moon at The Looker’s Legacy near Tenderden. It’s an old Shepherd’s hut that has been amazingly renovated to include a double bedroom, kitchen, lounge and wood burner as well as a hot tub. It’s located in the middle of a vineyard with no other buildings or people nearby… the perfect place to start married life together!
